The main purpose of KTET exam is to ensure that only qualified and eligible aspirants are recruited as teachers in Kerala’s schools. KTET sets a benchmark for teacher quality and helps maintain high standards in education.
KTET is designed to check the knowledge and teaching skills of prospective teachers. The Assam TET Exam is pen paper based test and is divided into 4 Caterories:
- KTET Category I: Lower Primary Classes (Classes 1 to 5)
- KTET Category II: Upper Primary Classes (Classes 6 to 8)
- KTET Category III: High School Classes (Classes 9 to 10)
- KTET Category IV: For Language Teachers (Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu) up to Upper Primary level, Specialist Teachers (Art & Physical Education), and Special Teachers
KTET Certificate is valid for Lifetime. Moreover, TET certificate is mandatory for teaching jobs in Government and aided schools. Previously, theK TET certificate was valid for 7 years. However, in 2020, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) extended the validity of all State TET and CTET certificates to a lifetime.
KTET 2024 – Exam Pattern
The Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (KTET) is conducted offline in pen-and-paper mode.The each category has a single paper of 150 marks and duration of exam is 150 minutes for each paper. The question paper consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with no negative marking for incorrect answers

The KTET syllabus for each category is different and is based on the curriculum used in Kerala schools. The KTET Exam generally includes:

What to carry in the KTET Nov 2024 examination venue?
Candidates are advised to carry with them only the following into the examination venue:
- Admit card downloaded from the KTET Website (a clear printout on A4 size paper).
- A simple transparent Ball Point Pens
- Additional photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) to be pasted on the Attendance Sheet.
- Any one of the authorized photo IDs (must be original, valid/ non-expired) – PAN card/ Driving License/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Aadhaar Card (With photograph)/E-Aadhaar with photograph/ Ration Card with photograph/ Bank Passbook with Photograph.
- PwBD certificate issued by the authorized medical officer, if claiming the relaxation under PwBD category
